World Turtle Day May 23

The purpose of World Turtle Day, May 23, sponsored yearly since 2000 by American Tortoise Rescue, is to bring attention to, and increase knowledge of and respect for, turtles and tortoises, and encourage human action to help them survive and thrive.[1][2][3]
Turtle Day is celebrated worldwide in a variety of ways, from dressing up as turtles or wearing green summer dresses, to saving turtles caught on highways, to research activities.

To celebrate  we headed out to our local wildlife center to visit the turtles there!

Summer Session of Sensational Learning Fun Project 3

In Georgia we have access to a great resource called Discovery Education. This is a treasure trove of videos, lesson plans, images and more! All for FREE! We use this a lot in our home school lessons. One series of videos that we plan to use this summer is called Art Tango. Our first Art Tango lesson was a Giant Shoe drawing!  This is the description of the lesson:

Students will understand shape, color, and proportion after completing this lesson. The students will create their giant shoe drawing by drawing it twice as big on a piece of paper and filling it in with either warm or cool colors.

We talked about warm and cool colors and set to work!

Junior Ranger Gopher Badge

We love State Parks!  We set a goal a few years ago to visit all of the Georgia State Parks as a family.  There is just something about the great outdoors! We love to geocache nnd lots of the parks now have caches placed in them.  It's really fun and gets the kids moving!  This up coming week we plan to work on a new badge that the parks dept. has come out with.  It's called the Junior Ranger Gopher Badge! You  choose from a list of 16 different badge requirements that will get you outdoors and help you learn about nature. You can download the booklet here or ask for it at your local GA state park office!  Wish us luck!
