Volcano Study

So far we have watched Volcano: Nature's Inferno  by National Geographic on Netflix instant streaming.

We love united streaming here in our house! It's free educational videos for educators from GPB.  We watched:

Reading Rainbow Hill of Fire

Save-ums!: Save That Ant / Find That Pet Rock

The Magic School Bus: Blows Its Top

(Ms. Frizzle presents the kids with the missing piece to their gigantic Earth puzzle--an island that hasn't been discovered yet. Both Dorothy Ann and Carlos want to be first to discover the island so they can name it, but when they reach the spot where it's supposed to be, all they see is the sea. It takes a run-in with an explosive underwater volcano to help them understand how the earth makes new landforms.)

Rocks: The Solid Earth Materials: Part 01 (With the help of a Rock Wizard and a little imagination, students discover rocks on Earth. They earn that the earth is made up of different types of rocks and that rocks are made of minerals. Students will discover the ways different types of rocks are formed and many of the properties of rocks and minerals, such as size, shape, color, and texture.)

The girls and I plan to make a model volcano and try various types of explosions in it.  they wanted to try out the baking soda and Vinegar one right away, so we tried it in a cup and added some red food coloring!

We made our own volcanos online (over and over) using this website.

We worked on our lapbooks from homeschool share.  We did the vocabulary folders, the types of rocks mini book, and What's inside the Earth.

Lots more fun to come!!

Earth Day Puffy Paint Project!

I found this cute idea at No Time for Flash Cards.  The site tells you how to make puffy paint from glue and shaving cream!  We had a great time with this!

We used shave gel because that is what we had on hand.  It seemed to work just fine.

The more we mixed the more our mixture grew! We had to move it to a larger bowl.

The aftermath!

We had alot of paint left so I let them go to town on the driveway with it!

Emma loved this part!  She is our little artist and also love to get messy!

Try it and see how much fun you can have!
